Te is a wireless alternative to the electric kettle. The device allows users to take the ritual of brewing tea to any destination.
The user places Te in a beverage of their choice, activates the device, and has a heated drink within a couple minutes.
Tea is the second most widely consumed beverage in the word, the process is enjoyable and ritualistic.
Finding opportunity.
Tea is a beverage with culture and tradition baked into its existence. The brewing process has adapted alongside modern technology yet remains a ritualistic experience for many. Keeping this notion in mind during the ideation process was crucial to generating ideas.
How can we improve upon the modern process of brewing tea?
Design Criteria
Inviting
An inviting product experience encourages interaction.
Reduce
Small-sized products better suit the individual, reduce material costs and lessen waste.
Safety
The user must have confidence they wont be injured when using the product.
Safety
The user must have confidence they wont be injured when using the product.
The ideation stage quickly led towards finding an alternative to the electric kettle.
Ideas focused on principles of universal design, improving accessibility, and convenience.
Defining a direction.
During the development stage, the existing product of an immersion boiler was brought to my attention. Current immersion boilers operate by heating water with an exposed electrical element.
Immersion boilers are unsafe and lack portability, yet simple and intuitive to interact with.
Extensive testing was conducted to validate the ergonomic functionality, heating capabilities, and balance across a range of different drinking vessels.
Clean Components
Heat cover twists off to be cleaned.
Inner chamber coated orange to emphasize heated area.
Safe Base
Magnetic base provides a simple inductive charging interaction, and a safe location to place Te after use.
Drip catch prevents liquid from reaching unwanted places.
Ring light indicates charge level.
Anti Scald Protection
Te is covered in a layer of heat-resistant Santoprene.
The user is protected no matter how they interact with the device.
Ring Light
Te’s ring light fills gradually as the beverage is heated.
Brand Development
A key improvement Te makes on current immersion boilers is a feeling of elevated quality. The development of a branding language pushes this high quality experience further.
Advanced Technology
Te utilizes a revolutionary battery developed by Nawa Technologies that allows the device to heat beverages to a comfortable drinking temperature.
Nawa Technologies Ultra Fast Carbon Electrode Battery
Multi-Purpose
Te can be used to reheat beverages as well as brew water for making tea.
Eco Friendly
Te is built using stainless steel and Santoprene
Both of these materials can be broken down and recycled.
This recycling process is eased by Te’s snap-fit construction.
